Morning Mindfulness Practice:
Set a Daily Intention
- On waking, stay still and relaxed. Close your eyes and connect with the sensations of the body.
- Take thee long deep breaths through the nose into the belly, and let them out with an audible sigh.
- Ask yourself: “What is my intention for today?”
a. How do I want to show up in the world? What qualities do I want to possess?
b. What do I intend to do to take care of myself today?
c. What is most important for me to get accomplished today? Is there a goal you are working on or an important project or task?
d. How might I feel more connected to others and what I am doing today to experience greater fulfillment? - See this intention coming to fruition in your mind. Try to experience what it will feel like to follow through or accomplish this intention. Really feel it in your body.
- You can set your intention in your head, but WRITING IT DOWN will make you more likely to do it.
- Pause throughout the day—set two timers on your phone if you need to—and check-in with your intention.
- Before bed, revisit and reflect on your morning intention. How did it go? Success? Why, why not? What might you do, or intend, differently tomorrow?
